Just received another new Handmade LAW piece to add to my stash.I have the Buzzer 120 tip,MCB 110 tip and just got Lawrie to make me an MCB 120 tip but he has changed the design abit and look's like the baffle is more bullet shaped than my other MCB.It's so focused and has that Link like sound colour going on but so,so much more freer blowing and plenty of whollop and i am very happy once more with the piece. As with my other Law's the Altissimo is the best i have ever found on any piece and i had many DG's etc.Thank's again to Pete at Studio Saxophone's for helping me out, cant wait till the Soprano and Alto piece's come about. He is still doing test's at the momment on his lasted Alto piece's and bet there monster player's like the Tenor piece's. :mrcool

Hi David,

Sounds like a great piece - it would be very interesting to see pictures of the baffle and chamber areas.

I wonder if it's a bit like the special tenor piece that he made for me. That is a dream to play on - makes you want to keep on and on blowing. That one has a sloping baffle going down into a bullet chamber and it narrows in the throat area.

Any more news about Lawrie's soprano and alto pieces - are they metal or ebonite and what style are they like ?

All the best

Rhys

Hi, i will sort out some pic's tomorrow if you send me your email.Just got the piece today and it's still bare brass incase i was wanting it tweaked but i knew straight away it was for keep's and i think i will just leave it bare brass asmy sax is unlacqured and i like the look of the piece as it is.The new design he done for me is a new thing he's trying out i think and compared to my 110 MCB it has a slight rollover baffle going into a slight bullet chamber to the throat area to my eye's.It's very, very focused and i think for loud setting's it would be superb. Not bright but more clear and clean sounding with a nice fat edge.

good god man! there's no stopping you! go on, get a Kali and report back on it (did you spot, we all missed out on one on Ebay the other week- failed to sell at £295, doh!). Anyway- My new year's resolution, no new tenor mouthpieces in 2009....

I bet you end up getting 1 or even 2.Surprised about the Kali not selling. From the new sound bite's the Durga sound's the biss to me, on Neffmusic site he has the Law BUZZER against the KALI and the BUZZER come's out top's to my ear's.For the cost of a Theo Wanne piece you can get 2 LAW piece's handmade to your spec and a law custom ligature so go figure. It's crazy money for the Wanne mp's.I still want the Law LCD 120 for good measure but will have to wait awhile till the dust clear's.

David,

Does yours look anything like my LAW which is a special he made for me ?

Mine is marked:
#8**
.118"
SP
R.D.

Here are some pictures that show the baffle and chamber area of mine:

PS I think it is best to get it plated so that it won't taste bad and shouldn't degrade too much. But it's all a matter of taste !

Rhyson Here's the New LAW MCB SPECIAL 120 he made for me,
It's engraved, 9, *0120, MCB/S. and it is a power house of a piece, great for full on gig's.I also testing out an other piece he sent bare brass that he's trying out, very deep lush sound with a big chamber and the side wall's concaved alot, great jazz piece and big beefy tone.

The *0120 is the serial number of the mp,He started the serial number's from 0101,the early Law's dont have serial's.So the piece is a size 9 MCB/Special.

Hi Dave, Lawrie tells me that you are having your new piece plated, good call mine was going green.I have decided on a 7* tip 105 on my AD Buzzer. And i have the first of the new serial numbers 101.The Alto pieces are coming on and Lawrie has 3 models in the final stages of design, watch out for Steve Neff soundbites if they are anything like the prototype i have been sent they are altissimo heaven.:sax:

Cant wait to try the Buzzer type Alto piece.Steve Neff's site is great for that kind of help and info and he's a great player aswell. When the Law ALTO mp's arrive then the Law Soprano mp's will be next i hope, has he plan's on SOPRANO mp's as yet?

Well DK I love my law 8 buzzer but if you keep on trying out new laws and posting such positive reviews i can feel an mcb or even a lcd may be heading my way pretty soon...Yikes...I thought I had it under control...:shocked:and soprano mpces to add to the want list as well..........:welldone

Hi, well as of today i have bit the bullet again and bought the LCD 120 Lawrie and Pete Scadden sent me to try out when i bought my 120 MCB Special piece. My gas is under control for the rest of my day's with my 3 LAW'S and any musical situation is sorted out on tenor with these,BUZZER 120, LCD 120,MCB/S 120.The LCD is the ultimate Jazz piece i think, thick, dark, rich and a touch of edge that is free blowing and again monster Altissimo. It has a big open chamber and long concaved wall's and rollover baffle and if you like that LINK like sound and who wont for Jazz but not stuffy and dead and hard work to play you should check out the LCD,IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY.I wish these had been about year's ago when i went through so many piece's and alot of cash and fight's with my good wife. The next chapter will be Law's Alto piece's,yee haa i cant wait to try them out.:D

Sounds interesting. I am using a Jody Jazz DV NY 7* with Marca Jazz 3 reeds. Mid and low down the tone is superb - blows your socks off! But I am not so comfortable up top and altissimo is neigh on impossible for me. Opening is 105. I tried an 8* at 115 but settled on the smaller opening.

I guess I just need more practice but may end up looking at the Laws. Do they let you try before you buy?

Hi, yes they would and if you phone or email Pete Scadden at Studio Saxophone's in Wales,Abergavenny he would give you the gen and info,he's a top guy and very helpfull and know's his stuff and would sort it Through Lawrie Waldron for you.I find the 3 LAW'S i have are the best Altissimo i have ever had and i had many top mp's.:D

David

Just spoke to Pete - you were of course correct. Very helpful indeed. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi , i am sure LAW's the way to go,my low baffle, medium baffle and high baffle piece's are all as good as each other in the Altissimo .You will be happy with 1 of these.:welldone

There's 2 sound clip's of the LAW BUZZER and LAW MCB ALTO mp's on NEFFMUSIC site, they sound great ,check them out.
