Own up, who has had (maybe drunken) discussions about what’s a good name for your new or imaginary band?

Or maybe just your actual favourite band names.

The Beatles is a pretty bad name. I was once, briefly, in a band called Zoot Alors.

Imaginary band...

I was always baffled by Simple Minds as a band name…. I’ve had vague ideas of calling bands The Bourdains (after one of my heroes- Anthony Bourdain) or- from a book by Chuck Palaniuk- author of Fight club- probably the ultimate name for a Punk band, a character called Roadkill Jesus…

On an edible level there were some good psychedelic band names, or stinkers if you prefer.

Vanilla Fudge, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Peanut Butter Conspirancy, Chocolate Watch Band, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets (tough one to beat) and Ultimate Spinach.

They all disappeared into well deserved obscurity although the, to my mind aptly named, Vanilla Fudge seemed to hang around and of course the Electric Prunes gave us the classic “I had too much to dream last night”.

You could have been BABS or even ABBS, just one letter away from unimaginable fortune. Armitage Shanks Ballcock and Flush might have been more successful. The three busketeers is pretty good though. I hope you did well.

The commemorative postage stamps of the trans atlantic flight of Alcock and Brown were out at about that time and Armitage Shanks was a well known ceramic bathroom aplliance manufacturer.
The allusion to plumbing and brown was found to be too much for half the band.
Nobody minded speculation as to who was who in the Busketeers.
I can't remember if I was Porthos or Aramis.

I was in a ‘70s band that played original music inspired, in part, by Frank Zappa. We were known as “The Post Nasal Drips Wind and Percussion Symphony”. Our trumpet player was featured in Downbeat Magazine, so it was at least good exposure for him.

When Covid is over, I will be hosting auditions for my band comprised by 3-4 baritone saxophonists. Not much skill is required. My suggestion for a name is: "The Rock Bottoms".
There's already a band with that name.
