Yes, sadly they are (over a certain amount).

There is VAT to pay and import duty, which can vary depend on the type of goods.

Also these days parcelforce levy a charge for them to pay the duty on your behalf and then you have to pay them before you can get your item.

I can't view that link properly at the moment - do these taxes apply if you have a friend who lives there buy the item then post it you? They wouldn't tax you if someone sent you a jumper from abroad for Christmas (thanks!...) so a mouthpiece wouldn't be any different in that sense?

Yes you could end up paying for your own birthday pressy off your great nana in the USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But some people think import duty tax is fair,it's a strange world it is;}:))):)))
