Saxophones GAS... What am I going to do with this one?

I'm very happy with my SDA alto, have a Yamaha "just in case" (in fact, it's been in its case a while...), and then today I spot one of the Big Four manufacturers at a price which triggers my "Auto-Alert" function.

Now, this is a useful function which does three things:
  1. Visually verifies the brand and desirability against a wide ranging database of saxophones.
  2. Calculates how much of a bargain it is, and...
  3. If it's suitably cheap and fits my "bargain" criteria, raises the hairs on the back of my neck.
It's winging its way to me soon, to join its family down below.

:happydance:

But he keeps it secret where he finds these bargains
They're all buried 2.2 miles south east of J7 on the M1. Must be a thousand or so saxophones, and snare drums (?).

Just follow the glow-in-the-dark pebbles, which remind me which way to go.

Take a shovel.

;)

Anyhoo... the future's bright, the future's... blue (this time).

See: Saxophones - The future is bright, the future is...

Cleveland full pearls, lovely!

On my "hit list" although I'd prefer an alto Silversonic. I know someone who has one under his bed, which I played years ago, but he'd rather die than let it go.

I had a late Cleveland silversonic tenor (without pearls) a few years ago but traded it. I'd always loved the look of the full pearl Kings. This one is a series 2 model from 1952/53.

I see S20 Cleveland tenors around £2,500-3,500. Full pearls adds a bit.

My target trigger price would be £1,500. Missed a full pearls Silversonic tenor years ago as I swithered over the seller's £1,000 asking price. I dithered and he sold it to that awful Ebayer, you know the one.

I spotted it on a hot rod and dragster forum (of course) in the small ads. I used to be active in that area many, many years ago...

Wow, full pearl silversonics are uber rare and valuable these days. I'm sure you kicked yourself for missing out on that one. I have several regrets about horns I should have bought when the opportunity was there. As the saying goes... “We regret the things we don’t do more than the things we do.”

I don't know which ebay seller you mean? In the UK?

Yes, he has a different UK Ebay name from back them, but you'll still spot pages of horns, mouthpieces, every week.

Of course I kicked myself, but this was before I had played any S20 and so I only had its reputation to go by. Mind you... that's not stopped me from buying many a horn!

Well, as you haven't guessed...

I jumped at it due to its price, plus I have it's bigger brother: Saxophones - The future is bright, the future is...

Seller is an ex-military band player, just changed to a BW M2 Earth so this had to go.

Now, can anyone identify the equivalent Yany model number?
