My favourite album I have is charlie parker jam sessions and I have started to look at the players involved .I already know a few but wanted suggestions for albums of flip Phillips 🙂 as I really like his sound .
cheers that's great I will have to get that one 🙂 I really love his sound .I thought I had quite a lot of Flip Phillips, but it seems I have not. He does appear in Woody Herman's great band of the early 1940s but you'd have to dig through the tracks to find any solos by him. He was not in the even greater Herman Four Brothers band of '47. He is also on various of the Jazz At The Philharmonic albums but they are often pretty rumbustious, extrovert affairs.
My trusty Rough Guide to Jazz recommends Flip Wails: The best of the Verve Years ('47-'57) and A Real Swinger (Concord '88).
Hope that helps.
