First time solo

Hi all,
I have played many a concert and performance, but always as part of a group - from quartet to 60-strong film orchestra.
However yesterday I went it alone!

I took my iPad with playlist of backing tracks and my TDK soundcube, and a wadge of Christmas music along to our local hospice and played for about 30 minutes as the day hospice patients arrived to their Christmas party.

I loved every minute of it, as did the patients - lots of dancing and applause.

They forced me to stay for a full roast turkey lunch, with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding with custard, cheese and biscuits, coffee and after dinner mints - well, I couldn't refuse.

The funniest thing (to me) was when several staff from all over the building came down to check me out - I had never expected to be quiet, but I didn't appreciate just how far my sound was travelling.

Anyway, I am back there again tomorrow! 😀

Good on you for spreading some Christmas joy aswell.

Be honest though, the free Christmas lunch with all the trimmings was what drew you in the first place.

I turned down lunch today 😉

it was superb, but I was soooooo full on Tuesday! 😳

and they asked if I could manage a 3rd performance tomorrow 😀

Well done indeed you obviously made a impression. .what did you play..did you play from notes and did you get requests. .well done again.bumnote.
I played from notes - I bought a number of play along books and selected pieces that I thought would be appropriate - 35 or so minutes each of Christmas Songs and of Film music - the theme for the parties was "a night at the movies"
So I had pieces like Winter Wonderland, Santa Baby, Let it Snow! Mary's boy child, Jingle bell rock, As time goes by, Cabaret, the theme from The Godfather....

No requests, I just played while they had their cup of tea and mince pie on arrival.

I was really impressed with the acoustics - it is a modern building, I was in the corridor and the ceiling was about 10feet high. Somehow I thought I'd be struggling, but I though it sounded rather good!

Someone came down to video me today! To go in a video thanking the people who had donated money for the Christmas parties. If I get a copy, I'll let you know.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
