Well, I finally took the step of playing my sax in public today  The orchestra that I play cello with has a beginners' orchestra that meets before it. So, I played sax there this morning. Orchestral arrangements have fiendish key signatures for alto sax!

I've played very little fo rthe last three weeks because of the wretched flu big I've had, so my lip was suffering... I reckon it will be good for me to have to play for an hour and a half every week...

Heavens! A while yet I think... I was playing, well trying to, some blues stuff with my teacher on Friday.

Interestingly, in the main orchestra, we were playing a more-or-less full version of Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue. The clarinets certainly get a work-out in that (as do the trumpets). Mind you, the cello line is ferocious in places - right up to the E a 10th above middle C - I need a map to get there! And oxygen.
