Video from last night's concert, and my first improvised solo. A group of 40+ returning musicians that get together once a week and then do occasional concerts. I opened my mouth saying I was going over chords in my lessons and go volunteered for the open solo.
My teacher explained I could just use triad pairs, a whole 6 notes, and with a few pointers to go and mess about with them. He did demonstrate the concept.
Excuse the hesitation for the syncopation at the start, we got going eventually. Being set back under that ceiling didn't help with acoustics. I had to try and get little nod to Cannonball in there.
Watching the video back what have I learnt?
The low notes whilst sounding big and fat to me didn't project well.
I still don't know why I move around so much
whilst it provides much entertainment to the section, it probably doesn't help getting the sound to the audience.
Just for good measure here's one of our favourites Birdland
