Fine Scratches on Inside of BW Alto Bell

Daydream Believer
I've just got my new Bauhaus Walstein Phospher bronze deluxe action improved alto, via UPS about an hour ago. It seems to be in fine condition and I'm still working out getting the litgature on and tuning etc - early days, though!

My concern is that there are lots of fine scratches strating about an inch inside the bell and going all the way down, as far I can see. It's as if the inside has been rubbed with emery paper or scouring pads etc.

Can someone reassure me that this is normal, please?

Thanks,

Stephen

Yes!
Well, my AI PD Tenor (the same model as your Alto, I believe) has the same.
The scratches go around the bell, not up and down it.
I don't know if you've ever turned metal on a lathe, but it has that sort of look about it, as the cutting blade gradually progresses along the length of the bar.
On a poll of 2 saxophones, this seems to be normal 😀

Happy blowing, and welcome!

Hi Mandy

That's a relief! Thank you for explanation - it sounds just as you described it. Thanks, too, for the welcome. I posted something about myself in the new members thread, if anyone is interested in seeing it.
