Saxophone beginners exercise for arpeggio

You may be sorry you asked. Go to this link Universal Method for Saxophone Paul Deville and download it as a pdf file. It will take some time depending on your internet speed. Go to p. 212 and 213 and print them out. That will give you something to chew on for a while. You can refer to the index page and print out exercises as you need them.

What a treasure trove that book is, I love the preface - "The plan of study is thorough and progressive, and if strictly adhered to, cannot fail to produce a first-class performer."

Instructions on how to make your own reed..., we don't know how lucky we are....

And the fantastic rant in the section on ornaments...

"As a rule ornaments should not be added by a performer except where they are indicated by the Composer. Some ordinary performers are under the delusion that it "shows off" a player if he can "beautify" a piece with grace-notes and shakes, and trembling breath, and other means. This is offensive to good musical taste and amounts to mere vulgarity."

Wonderful....

Even though the book is out of copyright and on the internet, it is still available in book form. The paper and ink to download and print it would cost almost as much as the printed volume and would be a lot more hassle IMO. When I was learning to play, this was called the "Saxophone Bible".

Hello
I am working on exercises on page 212 & 213.214.. I am just curious to know why it is importance to know arpeggios.....
Arpeggios are the foundations for chord structure..... Important when to know you start to improvise. They are also used a lot in arrangements so its important to get your fingers used to playing them.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
