It's a ripper of a tune. I taught myself this tune off the Bechet record when I was 15 or so, and just starting out on clarinet.
Apparently (like other tunes Bechet claimed authorship of) Sidney may not have actually composed this himself. It was originally entitled Egyptia and was the theme song of the Creole Band from New Orleans, which toured on the American vaudeville circuits between 1914 and 1918. The band was led by Freddie Keppard and included Bechet on clarinet. The late Lawrence Gushee (1931- 2015) spent a lifetime researching the history of this band; his research was published at last in 2010, by the Oxford University Press, in a monograph entitled Pioneers of Jazz: The Story of the Creole Band. It's still in print.
