I got an effects pedal for Christmas. I did a whole load of research on the things and decided on the Voice Live 3 made by TC Helicon. It's primarily a vocal harmoniser/ effects pedal, designed around solo guitar playing singers.
It allows you to build up different sounds and effects and then save them for later selection during a performance. It is quite a complex piece of kit, but luckily there are loads of videos on YouTube on its use.
It has a very clever device called a looper. If you're not familiar with these, it is simply a foot activated recorder, that "Loops" back to the beginning when you stop it. I won't go into the in's and out's but here is my first recording. I only used my tenor and I recorded two tracks and then played a live track over the top. The first track or loop is using an octave down to give me a bass line. The next loop is a simple harmony, giving me a simple horn section melody line and the live playing over the top is using an auto Wah Wah. (I'm going to get a pedal as the auto Wah sounds too clinical!)
I realise that when I listen to this, it shows how bad my timing is! Also, if someone could let me know what key I've done this in would be great! I hope you enjoy my rough version of Green Onions

Got something along those lines on my wish list - Sounds great Taz :)

I think yer in E minor (Concert)

I really like that. As you say a bit rough round the edges with timing but great fun. Something I've always wanted to do.

You may find Ed Alleyne Johnson inspiring. I have his album from back in the 80's. I think he played with the New model army. The band not Cromwell's crew.

Here he is busking in Chester.

I've just discovered a fantastic version of Green Onions by the Graham Bond Organization with Dick Heckstall Smith really expanding what can be done with this tune... couldn't find it on youtube but its the lead track on the Solid Bond album..

Ah yes indeed. I have this on vinyl from a very long time ago. He does the old tenor/sop thing which I won't be doing any time soon.

Nice job, these devices can be tricky and take a little practice, you don't have the luxury of edits and drop ins you have in a studio so you have produced a quite remarkable outcome, live this would be awesome and quite entertaining. I have regularly gigged on acoustic guitar and for some venues when I am on my own I use a Roland Boss loop station plus a TC-Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT Guitar and Vocal Effects Pedal. The real fun is doing it live, invariably mistakes get made, but it sharpens the senses no end. Great for listening skills! You've made me think I might try it on sax, we'll see. Enjoy and have a ton more fun with yours.

I've heard this guy live a couple of times - he tours all over the country - he does amazing things with loopers...

I've been umming and arhing about a Zoom one...

Katie Tunstall often uses this tool live on stage to create her backing - it's very impressive to watch
