I'm trying to contact Dougie Robinson who played in Geraldo Orchestra and Jack Parnell band. If anyone can give me an email address or website i'd be grateful. We are related an have 2 very musical children it would be great to contact him.

Hello

I regret to tell you that Doug passed away on Wednesday in Portugal where he has lived for the last 15 years or so.

I was a close friend and sat next to him in the Jack Parnell band for many years.

He was 90 last October. My email address is j.whelan.10@btinternet

If I can be of more assistance please contact me.

John Whelan

Thanks for the information John. Really sad to hear of another great player passing on. You may want to reconsider the public email address, it tends to attract a lot of undesirable mail. Maybe just let people send you a private message through the forum.

That's so sad, especially as it doesn't look like Cooksie managed to get in contact. They missed each other by three months.
I hope Doug has a deserving send off.

Thank you for the info its really sad I never got to meet him from what I hear from my mom (his distant cousin) he was a real gentlemen

My dad and Dougie were best mates in the Geraldo Orchestra. Dougie joined about 1945/6 and they played till my dad left in about 1950. They remained good friends and when my dad became an agent he represented Doug's wife Jill Day briefly. In 2009 and 2011 I visited Dougie and Anne Dove where they were living in Portugal. He was a lovely man and very content in his retirement. He had played with Frank Sinatra from 1970 till Sinatra's retirement in 1994. He showed me two pictures that I would dearly like to own. One a signed picture to Dougie from Sinatra, the other a picture taken in New York of Dougie in a group containing amongst others Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Paarker and Stan Getz. For anyone reading this with a long memory, my dad was George Harris, Tenor Sax.

Hi
Thanks for the information I will pass this on to my mom, it would be really lovely to get in touch with Anne Dove. Its sad when families lose contact, and I would have loved my daughters to have met him, they play Cornet, Trumpet, Tenor horn and Piano. We are currently looking for a Cornet teacher so that my daughter can finish her grade 8. Again thank you for getting in touch and we will try and contact Dougie.s wife.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
