Digital Voice Recorder=Great tool for beginning improvisers

Durham, NC, USA
Olympus Digital Voice Recorder

Only $50US. I bought one and was experimenting tonight with my Aebersold Maiden Voyage book. Its great because there is no processing time and no rewind time. Just make up a new line and sing it along with the background track on the stereo. Stop the music and playback the soundbyte on the digital recorder and transcribe it on sax. There is no waiting time. It will even playback slower without altering the pitch. And did I mention cheap.

So then I analyzed what I sang harmonically just to see what my inner ear likes so I'll know in the future. I think this is going to be a great learning tool.

The volume is not loud enough to play backing tracks on it (unless you run the earphone out to your stereo), but then you cant have everything.

It'll be great for recording lessons and about 1/4 the size of a TV remote so it will fit in my sax case.
