No-one here seems to have mentioned the late Dick Morrissey!
I know his recordings are few and far between and aren't really very exciting, and there are only a couple of You-tube clips that now seem quite dated.

He was a wonderful player to see live and swung like crazy in any situation. As some critic said 'he made everyone in the room feel good'.

In my book a great player, and a really nice bloke too.

Hi Alan,
I went to see Dick in the late 80s before i started playing. He was playing mainstream jazz, quite funky really as i remember.
During his break in the bar i got talking to him, and he was giving me advice on what type of horn to get, He was playing an old Mk6
Tenor really good tone, he mentioned he used to play R/R prior to going into Jazz. Like you say a great player and a real Gentleman.
Regards Rob.
