Ya know, even to this day I come back to Dexter more than any other sax player. Such a sense of melodic play.
His lines are like a pebble skipping off a still pond. He was magnificent!

Now this guy made a huge contribution to the art of jazz, in my opinion. As I listen at this moment to the links Chris listed, while sipping coffee, it creates an air of inspiration and so it's time to do some practicing....Or is that air of inspiration from the caffeine? lol....

Anyone interested in Dexter Gordon, should try to get a DVD of "Round Midnight". A movie about a jazz sax player in Paris. It stars Dexter and the scenes with him playing are wonderful. I think you can see some of these scenes on youtube.

Saw it when it came out in selected theatres ...later got the DVD... Fantastic... still watch it every now and then...
