Am fairly new to Tenor and play in a couple of different groups( also play guitar and sing)and am sure this is a really dumb question but how do you guys go about keeping your reeds from going dry and curling up in between songs when you're not playing the horn.
Am using Vandoran Java's 2 1/2
Just did a 4th of July show in the hot sun and it was pretty frustrating.

Thanks

Give the reed a good soak before you set up. Make it extra wet when you put it down. Then between numbers, pick up the horn and wet the reed with your mouth. Keep doing it at every opportunity. At the intermission take off the mouthpiece and re soak the reed. And do keep the cap on when it's not in your mouth. I know players who use synthetic reeds to get round the drying problem.

I sometimes take bari, tenor, alto, sop and clarinet to gigs. Before I set off, I put the reeds in their plastic protectors, in a small tupperware box filled with water.

Will try the Tupperware idea.
Also just ordered a synthetic reed (fibracell)so will give that a try.

Thanks

Never have been a fan of Fibracell. For me they are too edgy. I like either Forestone or Legere (though these are slippery little devils).

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
