Where might one find a contrabass, and how much would they expect to pay for one? I have been trying to find an answer, but nothing has really been sufficient.

Sax Co has one for about 28K.

IF you find one used Im gonna venture to guess a beater will start at around 15k and better ones for more.

...and the cost of a pickup truck.

Orsi made contrabass saophoners for LaSax in the late 90's. LaSax was in IL? Today I think it's Sax Dakota but I don't think they are selling contrabasses anymore. Price ?????

If I remember correctly from some articles in Saxophone Journal the Orsi made LA Sax contrabass saxes were about USD50,000.00 because at the time that equated to about NZD100,000.00!

If you're a buying a contrabass sax whether new or second hand you need some serious coin...:w00t:

and a truck to cart around in...

I was converting pounds to dollars since the OP is in the US.

Either way its a lotta dough!

I think spending all that cash on a saxophone that towers over me would be a little unsettling.

I tried both Eppelsheim Tubax and Contrabass (and Bass, but that's offtopic)
The Tubax is a masterpiece: as easy as a tenor.

Hope they held the step ladder securely for you :)
