Gone West
I have decided to offer for sale my 1965 Conn 10M serial E208XX, this is quite a hard decision for me as I have owned and played (and loved) this horn for a number of years. I recently purchased a used Yanagisawa and although it's no 10M I find it easier to play and fits in more with the kind of stuff I'm doing at the moment, the old fingers ain't as nimble as they used to be.

I de-lacquered it myself a while back and it's now gaining that nice patina that looks good on a sax of it's age, it has no dents and the engraving is faint but still looks good.

Underslung octave key and double socket neck, straight tone holes, no lady and sheet metal key-guards, some say that anything after 1960 Conn production moved to Mexico but reliable sources indicate that the production of "Artist" models 6/10/12M remained in Elkhart.

It has recently had an adjustment by Woodwind Exchange to get it into top playing order and as such I would be looking for £600 or near offer, I would also want any prospective purchaser to try the instrument prior to buying and would be willing to travel a reasonable distance to facilitate this. I've witnessed too many damage claims to risk trusting it to couriers.

5% to forum on successful sale.

Pictures and location would be good.

If it helps, the Conn factory in Mexico did open in 1960, but only for their cheaper horns, with the 10M and similar horns in Elkhart until the late 1960s. I believe the Elkhart factory closed completely in 1972, although Conn moved back to Elkhart in 1980. So, your sax should be one of the non-Mexican ones.

Thank you all for the kind words, it does have some blemishes but nothing serious, when all said it is 50 years old this year and does play very well, I'll have to stop now or else I may talk myself out of selling it.

Apologies for the restrictions regarding carriage, if I posted it and the buyer didn't like it I would always be happy to take it back but when I first started buying saxophones the condition of the packaging on some I received was testament to the treatment they had suffered even when well packed.

A Fantastic Buy . Just goes to show that selling horns here at the moment is like Pulling teeth when a 10M for £600 (ONO !!) wasn`t snapped up within the first hour of listing let alone still here two days later .. you`ve cast the pearls to the swine and it`s not worked (me included, wish I had the cash) ..

I`d bung it on Pre-loved Dennis at £1200 ONO collection only .. you`ll get "silly" offers of £750-£800 which you can then casually accept ..

I think a 10M from 1965 were made in Elkhart, Indiana. They say no 6M or 10M was made in Nogales or Mexico.

1968 "Conn" (Crowal-Collier Macmillan) bought Best manufactoring in Nogales, Arizona.
1970 "Conn"(Crowal-Collier Macmillan) sold thier buildnings in Elkhart, Indiana to Selmer US, and .
"Conn" (Crowal-Collier Macmillan) started to built saxes at Best manufactoring in Nogales, Arizona.
Between 1972 -1980 all Conn saxes were made in Mexico. Not Nogales, Arizona. The 18M alto was made in Mexico all the time. The 11m low A bari was made in Elkhart. Where? The buildings were sold!
1980 Daniel Henkin bought "Conn", and "King" as well (kind of merged the two companies). The production moved back to Elkhart? He closed down Nogales plant and the Mexico connection as well.

But what did Conn do in Abilene, Texas? My first letter to a saxophone manufactor was sent to Abilene!
