Computer Software to aid learning.

I am a beginner on the alto and can play a few simple tunes badly. I've had a few lessons, have various books and watched Pete Thomas DVD a few times. (it is good but will take some time to cover all the content)
What i would like is a bit of soft ware/learning system where by i could watch my computer screen and see the notes of a tune moving by whilst hearing a backing with timing. I would then learn to play along at the correct pace.
I would like it to be freeware for a mac. Maybe something like Band in Box would do this (I don't really understand what it can do, certainly lots of stuff I don't need)

You could have a look at Smart Music. There is a subscription, but I've found it useful and well worth the money. It has been mentioned in previous threads:Cafe discussion
