Saxophones Classic Buescher TH&C heads up

Looks nice, although I'm always suspicious of 'closet horns'. If it's so blooody marvellous, how come it's been left in the clost?

Top hat and cane? Why no mention of the gloves?

Mentioning gloves in connection with Saxophones sends people running as far away from the horn as possible - Thank Firstly the Pihranas and secondly Jollysun etc for including a pair with the worst saxes to come out of China .

I have nice saxes that are going to be "closet horns". I just can't sell out my saxes! 80 % of playing time is on a Yamaha YTS 25. I would be doing fine with just that sax. The other saxes are in the closet!

Beside a modern Keilwerth, the Buescher 400 TH&C is a horn that I would like to own. Big sound. I tried one in Boston for some years ago and it was a dream. Beside the cost of the saxophone I had to buy a shaped case so I could have the horn in the cabin under the seat. Too much money.

Thankfully Not all classics were owned by the thrash it to death in seedy pubs circle - like nowadays where you get beginners owning top end horns, you did then and in 20 years or so, you`ll see closet Yamaha 82Zs, Yani 9932s, Ref-54s etc .....

I`m very very thankful that my new YTS-61 was a Closet horn - it`s near mint and plays a damn sight smoother than the ratty stage-trashed sample which I had before, it actually sounds a touch better too .

it's not just pub musicians who wear out their instruments - this quote from Matt Stohrer's facebook page -
"Doing a lot of key fitting on a very worn Yamaha Custom that probably isn't more than a decade old. Classical cats play hard."

Good point, There was a well Shagged-out Reference 54 on Fleabay recently which had a very hard short classical life - even the sling loop was nearly worn through . this 5 grand horn was that knackered that it fetched less than a used TJ RAW

I happened across this myself, I never look at preloved ,but for some reason got the urge and there it was, my most longed for sax and now finances dictate I can only drool, didn't you say you were in the market for something "a Selmer I think"in that price range,if so then this TH@C would be a better buy,I believe they are a great horn .....John

ps seems amazing it hasn't been snapped up like you say they are very rare

I`ve got even less cash than you have and sadly I can`t put up with the pokey-hole-B left tables which old USA horns have .

When a near mint TH&C lies unsold at Mauriat / TJ / used 62/901 prices you can tell that there`s no cash about .. even so I`d have thought it would have gone by now, these things are far rarer than the rest of the Trinity of USA Classic Altos (6M & S20), garner just as much respect and make MkVIs look as common as dogpoo

I had a Top Hat and Cane until very recently. One that belonged to Pete at sometime. Sorry that its gone but needs must. The engraving was way more detailed than on this particular example and yes there is lacquer in the engraving of this one by the look of it.
I just don't want anyone who is interested caught out.
Take a look at this for comparison. Its what original looks like.
Particularly the 1st and 5th photos down the page.

The engraving is usually about 4 foot deep and shows in even poorly lighted photos.

Again nothing wrong with not being original except....priced wrongly IMO

I didn`t notice that, I didn`t look at the E-bay listing (where there are more pics) , you can see it clearly that its been lacquered over the engraving - also where the new laq has chipped off on the serial number pic .. I`ve never seen a tidy one close-up and thought the honey colour could be how they looked when in nearly new cond .......

Well , at least my YTS-61 really was a closet-horn , you can`t replace that purple logo and if anyone laq'd over Yamaha engraving it`ds stick out a mile also
