clarinet upgrade wanted

Hi all.......looking to upgrade my old Boosey and Hawkes B-flat 'Regent' clarinet.. If you have anything interesting, please contact me. Happy Christmas to one and all.:thumb:🙂

Dear Paul,

I do, it is a Boosey Emperor- or 2.20 series which was made for the US market, I have it on ebay at present but am willing to negotiate, however, because you have requested it through the forum I would feel that I must make the usual donation too.

I can accept paypal but would prefer bank transfer if you could, what I would offer is the usual 7 days to try it out, if you are not entirely delighted then no problem. At least you have had the opportunity to test one and see for yourself.

The Clarinet in question has been serviced by Roger Price. I actually have one other 2.20 series with Roger at the moment, this is being overhauled using standard fish bladder pads, the one on ebay has premium leather pads.

Both of these are top quality clarinets and you would be amazed at the difference in tone and openness if you are using the plastic Regent.

Regards
Melissa

Hi Paul,

I have added my message here in case you did not receive a response:

I have it on ebay, item 281040213537 for £345.00, however, if I sell it though the cafe I can go down to £295.00 incl, and I shall also donate 5%.I thought to add, I usually sell these for around the £395 mark and I have only reduced it as a gesture of goodwill.

If this is ok for you, I would appreciate payment via bank transfer as cannot really afford to pay any fee's on top of this, hope this is of some use to you.

Regards
Melissa

Hi everyone. I have just been sold an old '62 B&H Emperor in Grenadilla wood for £40 with its original m/piece and two barrels etc (owned from new I believe and little used in recent years). It has no cracks or other damage and certainly needs a service, but seems in good order and has a rich, warm sound.....so I'll put a hold on this post until I have seen Griff in the New Year.
All the best for a wondrous 2013....I'm now off to start planning Teignmouth's 2013 Jazz Festival!

Forty quid! I've got a later version of this, bought new in 1979, and it's a great clarinet.

If you get bored with it. let me know and I'll take it off your hands for what you paid for it.>:)

At that price it's a bargain.

At that price after Griff's sorted it, it's a steal. Naughty naughty...

Did I score with this one? Oh dear.....I only borrowed it to see what it was like having been given an old Regent which Griff fixed up, and I quite liked. I knew the guy, and also knew that he never played it, showed some interest and he offered it to me for £40 because that was £10 more than he'd payed for it as a schoolboy! Is fate telling me I should be a clarinettist?
Nice to know it's a good one, Jonf, as I couldn't find out that much about it on the net that wasn't immediately contradicted somewhere else. I'd be very pleased if someone directed me to a good source of info.

In the mid 70s I bought a pair of them and have been happy with them ever since. They play great and are very reliable. The Emperor was Boosey & Hawkes top student model.

When Boosey & Hawkes took over Buffet they transferred woodwind production to Buffet. The Regent became the B12 and the Emperor became the E13. Last time I looked E13s cost around £1300.

Melissa's clarinet is a bargain at £295. With the overhaul it has just had there is every chance it will play trouble free for the next ten years at least. Mine do.

Jim.
