Hi all. Just been shown a gold lacquer Charles Foote 'stencil' tenor and wondered if anyone might have any info. Footes, of course, are well known for percussion ware and double basses from their shop in Golden Square, Soho, but I wasn't previously aware that they carried an 'own brand' saxophone line in earlier years.
Country of manufacture is engraved as Paris France and nothing more. My guess is that it is an SML stencil from around 1950 and has a similar bell brace, similar keywork and similarly milled bell rings to pictures of early SML models I have found, even looking a little like the so called Coleman Hawkins model they produced for the American market.
Haven't had a chance to blow it yet. Would really appreciate any help given.
