Just thought i'd share this in case it's of any use to anyone. Well like many others i bought a Cebulla neck strap when they first appeared on the market, and although very well made i'd have to say pretty hopeless in use with the slider constantly slipping and needing re-adjusting-constantly! i did get it to work slightly better by putting it on the wrong way round but not by much, anyway it got chucked in a case with a load of mic cables and forgotten about until the other day when i noticed it and got it out, it seemed such a shame not to be able to use it so i set about modifiying it so it could be used, firstly i cut off the rather feeble cord that it came with then drilled and radiussed a 5th slightly larger hole in the center of the adjuster. For cord i used 550lb breaking strain para cord and rigged it through the adjuster including the 5th hole, tied the ends using a neat overhand sliding knot and hey presto a strap that can now be adjusted to were you want it and stays there permanently!

Nice work. I have one of these original straps too. It also slipped a bit. So this week I emailed Johann Cebulla asking how I could go about getting an extra wide adjuster fitted. He replied within the hour saying that he could fit this, along with a new thicker cord, if I sent the strap to him in Germany. So I have. Total cost of upgrade: £3.20 postage to Germany, €4 for the new adjuster and €5.60 return shipping.

Excellent customer service from Cebulla. He speaks excellent English too.

I also have a couple of Cebulla straps that I like but are prone to slipping. They would be perfect without slippage.

Any more details on these two modifications - I don't really understand what has been done ?

Thanks

Rhys
Rhys if you want to send me your Cebulla i'll do it for you FOC if you pay the postage that is...

Sounds like the old story about the brush that lasted 30 years. A few new heads and a few new handles and it's still going. If you've replaced the string and the adjuster you just need the end off an old dog lead and section of old belt and Ta Dah!

Just chalk em up were you want the alterations made and i'll sort em for you...NOT! haha, I recently had a pair of expensive (well expensive for me!) Next jeans that i split along the crotch so being the ever resorcefull fellow that i am put a shout out to all the lady's on my fb page to see if any of them would mend em, and you know what? not one of the miserable buggers replied, not one i say!

The cool part of the Cebulla is actually the leather part.
While I have no issues with the adjuster, can anyone think of an alternative, washable, material for the neck pad?
I talked about it to Johann, but no good alternatives seem available.

If you like leather there is no substitute. I chopped an old leather belt for one of mine.

Saddle soap will clean and revitalise leather. The stuff for cleaning tack is very good.

It is a matter of neck sweating.
Can you recommend some good saddle soap (better online or common brand)? I don't seem to have many saddle soap shops around here.

I've bought a Cebulla style split-padded strap with a nylon and neoprene neck pad to keep me going while my Cebulla's in for an upgrade. I'll try and put a review up at the weekend:

Also, Johann offered to replace the padding in my strap while he was doing the string and adjuster. Trigger's broom did spring to mind 🙂

That is great: I hate consumeristic culture. My Cebulla for alto is in line for a repad, as soon as I buy my next (white) Cebulla.
