In the latest CASS mag there's an interesting article comparing different clarinet ligatures. It is illustrated with sound spectra of notes played with the various ligs. Unfortunately they don't look like any clarinet spectra I've ever seen. Clarinet spectra (on an open G) should have a strong fundamental, virtually nothing for the even harmonics and the odd harmonics fairly strong to start with and tailing off after the 9th or so. The ones illustrated have weak fundamentals and loads of odd and even harmonics up to about the 10th. They look much more like oboe ones. Can anyone else here who's a member of CASS explain. I've emailed the editor so I might get something sensible from that quarter.
