Saxophones Buffet crime committed!! I'm crying...

I wonder if it`s not past Conolly's skills of resurrection ?
Multiple dents and dings, if you look carefully (or even casually!). Plus missing key work and thumb hook.
Look how outa shape the bell is!!

Plus... the weird foot print on the case!

What trill key?

Shouldn't there be hgh F# key as well. I use the side F# drill often. On the song "Never Make A Move Too Soon" (BB King/The Crusaders version) . The Buffet S1 can be fixed. Silver with gold keys is rare and the model is quite rare itself. Maybe a collector sax?

does any one ever use that trill key? I don't think I've ever noticed it before..
Er, yes lots of the time. It is often called the alternate F# key and isn't just for trilling.

Someone has taken off the F# and the high F# keywork and bodged both of the toneholes closed as well. They have also removed the cool Buffet S1 tilting thumbhook which is a shame.

My S1 soprano is silver plated and, like other Buffet silver horns I have seen, it has silver keywork as well. I doubt whether this horn was originally silver with lacquer keywork.

Shame.

My guess is that this was a lacquered horn, to hide the gaps left by the missing pillars, the body was then silver plated. Someone must have loved it to go to that length of customisation.

Why?.......... Was it an old timers horn, loving the tone and attempted to make the keywork old fashioned perhaps, I think this is so sad, I just feel like rescuing it.
Cannot really answer, but why the outrage ? There are many players that believe the least holes there are on a sax , the better the response. If there are keys you do not use , why not get rid of them? I would never do it on any of my instruments, but don't see why if someone feels it gives what they want they shouldn't do it: obviously either didn't think they would ever sell it or just didn't care!

Er, hardly outrage- guess you have not seen me unhappy 😀!, you know I sell old saxes, and this is a bit new for me, I just cannot fathom out why go to such trouble when they could have bought a horn to suit.

I'm saving one Buffet presently, over to you?

I shall watch I must admit, this would be an ideal project to work on to better my repair skills 🙂

I have seen someone actually make keys up and the results were pretty amazing, well, I thought it was pretty cool, and thought how wonderful it would be, to be able to do that 🙂
more difficult if you've not got the original parts to take measurements from, but nothing's impossible, it just depends on how much time and effort you want to put in

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
