I'd spotted this "400 series" model when I was having my first GAS attack, looked good here:
http://felixssaxophonecorner.blogspot.co.uk/2010/07/saxophone-review-buffet-400-alto-sax.html
and here: http://www.saxophoneman.com/index_files/Buffet400Alto.htm

Never really did ask here if anyone had one or had any thoughts on them?

What's the feeling? Any owners of the matt or shiny one here care to share their experience of it?

:)

I have the Matt one - superb horn, bought as back up for my Selmer Ref 54 Matt. Lovely build quality and superb sound. Not widely known by most players, and an absolute bargain at £1000. I am happy to let you have a go anytime but appreciate that you are some distance away. I think the review needs to be taken seriously - it really is up there with the best.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for that.
The Runyon 22 arrived today BTW, I'll try it out in a bit.
Did you try the Jericho J6 Alto, I can't recall?
I'm taking it, the YAS-275, JAS-567, and the old VITO to my tutor Saturday to help me choose and then I'll do my J6 review - think it's the winner at the moment.

Have you tried the Jericho J6, I can't recall? I wonder how the £300 J6 would fare against the £1000 BC8401???

I have the Matt one too and agree with Tom. A very good alto. Easy to blow from bottom Bb to high F# and further into the altissimo 'space' (I manage all the way to G :)). It's fairly in tune all the way. Prefer the sound of the Yani though (even though it's way harder to blow than the BC400).

We'll agree to differ on the last point. Much prefer it Yani and Yami pro level horns.

Hi, i read all the reviews i could find about this saxophone and purchased one from Alan Gregory in Manchester brand new for £700.
and it is absolutely fantastic . He matched the price i had been quoted by a music shop in Bristol (Jones)who invite you to make an offer ,so i offered £700 for the matt finish, and it was accepted. I decided to buy from Manchester as it was geographcally better and he matched the price. What a bargin , but if you don't ask !
I have coupled the sax with a Meyer 5 ebonite mouthpiece and La Voz reeds, great combination
kind regards

How long have you had it and how does it compare to other saxes you have played?
