I have 2 B&S horns and think they are excellent,very underated.
I have a blue label alto and a 2001 series tenor,the tenor is the best out of the two.

They're well thought of here. One of the local jazz pros has switched back to them from MkVIs.

I think they're underrated outside Germany.

He says they were keyed to High F# but that's not so, some didn't have the extra key, like the one in the video.

At the time, but later ones, like the gold label and 2000 were supposed to be better

B&S Blue Label are good horns. It was a modern construction compared to other DDR saxes. I think B&S stenciled a lot of saxes for other "manufactors/brandholders". The guys in DDR didn't think in terms like: Student-, intermediate-, pro-saxes. They just built the best saxes they could, with the material that was available! We talked about B&S Blue Label for some months ago.

I remember that thread Thom (following someone spotting one for sale on Preloved or Gumtree) , I think the concensus was that they were good horns but don`t break your back to get one or pay too much . there`s an endless number of good horns out there .
