BOTM BOTM December 2016 Estate - Un Eté

@saxyjt . sorry for the delay in answering , but I don,t go online every day and don,t have much wifi access either.

Apart from all of Chris,s goodies .I do most of my backings in either BIAB, Cubase and Reason. this one was was a BIAB job. Most of the Latino styles and real drums are very useful. I,m so so amazed that my 2004 Acer laptop still continues to crunch the numbers required. I,m definitely going to try to redo my version this month as I know the number well and have no excuses for posting such a bad effort.. LOL LOL LOL.

BOTM host candidates WANTED!

Since you have been wonderful contributors to this month's BOTM, I'd like to ask you if you'd like to host next month edition. Some of you already did in the past. So if there is a tune that you'd like to share with us...

It's still early in the month, but with Christmas and the new year on the horizon, most of us will be busy with celebrating and enjoying family. So I've been rightfully advised to look for the next host early. 😉

So, if you'd like to host, PM me.

Now, December is not over yet, so we're still open to more contributions. I'm still working on mine and I must tell you it's not as good as yours. But, if my kids (and wife) let me, I might finally manage to record a sample and post it here before the year is over!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I think you need to give a tutorial on how to BIAB for us numpties.

I have no experience whatsoever in BIAB, but there are probably some experts here.

Now, you don't need it to host the BOTM, if that's holding you... Chris usually creates a backtrack to go with the scores. So, no worries there.

@ac30kev - get 2016 or even better, 2017 BiaB and use RealTracks. The software is amazingly good compared to what it used to be. You don't need to use anything like the full range of features to come up with some really great backings, and the soloists are something else, you get to play with Ron Carter on bass and trade fours with the likes of Phil Woods. If you don't have a DAW then you can use the BiaB version, though compared to a full featured DAW such as Sonar it is limited, but certainly good enough for posting to Soundcloud.

Strongly recommended.

BIAB is certainlly the most adaptable method of produciing backing tracks painlessly. You can basically custom fit it to the music styles that you are interested in with the option of changing things at a later date if the need arises.

One of the best features is the chord analysis wizard thingy. If you have no access to a guitar or a piano to work out chords . BIAB will analyse a mp3 or WAV of a tune and then convert it to BIAB format. this tool is fantastic for doing less well known and non published pieces.

Must admit, I can't really get into this. I like Chet Bakers version, but nevertheless, I guess we should try all things, can't just play death metal all the time 🙂

Only one chorus, and it took me 2 goes to get this, I think this is one of those slow songs that beginners think will be easy, but it's actually pretty difficult to get right. but, I wanted to get something up at least.

Hey Saxofriends,

here is my version.
I experimented with mic positioning.
This one is me standing about the length of my tenor away, the mic rather high and pointing down. I tried that the mic could "see" the whole horn.
Tenor is my Mark VI with Rafael Navarro Maestra 7*
I hope you like it. Have a relaxed Christmastime.

That reminds me of one of the "common French phrases" we had to learn for French O Level.

If I remember correctly after 39 years of not having said it .. "Je me sens un peu plein apres toutes les douzaines d'huitres que j'ai mangees." Please excuse all the mistakes of spelling and my inability to add accents.

Joyeux Noel.

I'm amazed at how many french speakers we have in this forum. That's excellent Rhys. Alors, êtes-vous prêt pour une autre douzaine? 😀

A night sleep helped me move on to the next exciting part of Christmas, enjoying my new toys. I've been very modest this year, with a couple of boxes of reeds, a tuner/metronome and another book of scores.

New scores are like fresh food. I need to have some. I hate an empty fridge! 😵

So, on to trying the reeds and as someone said very appropriately the other day: "Stay tuned!"
