Hi, if you happen to have this book in the Alto version, are Bob’s demos played on the alto or tenor sax?

I’m making an assumption that with Bb version of the book the demo tracks are played on the tenor, as that is the instrument he’s most associated with.

Many thanks, Chris

I used to have the blues and funk etudes - they were used for grade exams. The demo's are all on tenor, and the alto parts are simply transposed to the original key. It would, I think, have been better to include a demo track on alto.

As an aside, I was lucky enough to play with Bob and attend a master class in the 80s when he was a guest artist at my school. In the class, he analyzed Donna Lee and talked about his days with Buddy as a player and composer/arranger. He rehearsed us on a couple of his charts. At the show later that day, in a truly terrifying but life changing moment, I traded fours with him on one tune. Even though he could have wiped the floor with me, we had a wonderful musical conversation. Super nice guy and amazing player, educator and composer.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
