Big Space - ambient electronics plus improv

I like the direction you're going, the part I liked the most started around 3:20 and especially at 3:40 where it sounded like you brought in a new pad -- I guess this was technically the outro but I feel like sonically it was working really well and it could be brought into the main section maybe at a couple of key moments. I wasn't so sold on the string/plucky sounding sequence, it was a bit distracting and I didn't really like the timbre but that's just me.

Thanks, so it's actually the same pad (well two pads) that are just evolving amd have various filters and so on being applied.

The string/plucky sound; are you referring to the rhythmic sound that comes in?

Oh, I really love this recording for many reasons, including:
- your 'sax contribution' perfectly matches the background! Mostly restrained and occasionally rising above the background but always 'in tune' (atmosphere) with the background and never (ego-)tempted to show off your technique; I found it a masterful example of 'playing what best suits the background music (and it's 'atmosphere')'!
- the 'mix' (notably your sax) is superb; your sax always sounds an 'integral' part of the mix. Never too strong and never too weak.; your 'sax EQ/PP' also perfectly suited the background
- I can well imagine this track as an 'intro' to a song by bands such as Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons project, Dire Straits and many more

Personally, I've learned a lot from this recording. So my personal thanks for posting this.

Above all, many congrats on this recording!

Mike

PS. Would you mind if I (with full attribution to you!) shared this recording with my fellow 'rock/pop' band members? Just to illustrate how I (and/or trumpet player) could contribute to an 'intro' of Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons, Dire Straits and other numbers that we play. No problem if you don't give your permission!

I think we're talking about the same thing, it fades in around 0:50 and is full volume probably after 1:00?
Ah no I was thinking of later. So that sound you're referring to is the pads resembled through a plugin called Cycles, that then uses granular synthesis to chop it up into parts and replay, with various randomness in terms of octave and slice direction.

Later there's a kind of processed tabla sound that provides some more consistent pulse

Sure!
