Strings Bass guitars

I wouldn't bother with a Hofner, they dont sound good, even with George Martin at the controls. Semi accoustics often feed back. Weight is an issue, not many bass guitarists dont have back problems. Music Man and Fender are both heavy. How it feels in the hands is fundamental to choice. I've had Fender, Wal, Epiphone, Hofner. I bought an Aria Pro 2, with a crack in the body, for £150, 27 yrs ago which is still excelllent. Fretless wouldn't be difficult for a double bassist. Stating the obvious: get an experienced bass player to check over anything your boy takes a shine to.

It is a little bit of a long shot but I have tried many bass guitars from 100pound ones to 4000 custommade fancy ones Yes some fancy ones are more comfortable but recently I have tried this amazing sounding bas guitar which costs as much as 200pounds probably.
It was a harley benton(cheapest model on thoman, their own brand) with nordstrand pick ups i cant tell you how amazing it sounds, easily can replace any custom made fancy ones.
So i would suggest a harley benton jazz or p/j (i like the jazz ones because it has more twang and nice mids for the type he likes jazz pickups are better) pickups then when he feels that he wants to get more out of his playing I would just replace the pickups with some nordstands or anything that he likes the sound of. Cheap and very easy to customise, well comfortable also.

I recommend a Timbo Jazz Bass (TM).

we did change the tuners with ultralights, cut the tip of the neck drilled a new hole below (so that the head is lighter and it doesnt tilt the other way) the bridge seems to be fine, but I think it is a mystery what you ll get out of the factory they can be quite different from each other they are definitely not identical.
all I am saying is little touches to what you have already can save a lot of money being wasted on brand names and I dont know how interested your son is to pimp his own guitar but it seems quite fun to many of us :p

I think it makes sense to post this here, due to not really being able to blow my horn in the evenings due to noise restrictions, I thought I might get an acoustic Bass, any Bass players here that can recommend a cheap Bass, gear for music have some for £90, sounds a bit too cheap to me? Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
