I have posted questions concerning the neck tenon, and I understand the tenon expanding process. Today I was playing the old thug and when I finished, exasperated, I noticed, upon closer examination, that the neck receiver had a double layer of metal. I picked around a bit and saw that it has a shim inside the receiver! Is this normal? Then I compared the bari tenon with my alto tenon; the alto tenon has at least twice the thickness as the bari. Does this mean, rather than having the tenon expanded I could have another shim installed in the receiver? I'm beginning to speak a language that I don't understand. Anybody? I hope I have made my situation clear.
