I'm currently playing alto sax, and I want an additional bari sax to play in our small band. Price is essential (<£1000). I'm driving to UK during summer, in the area between Dover and York. The sax must be playable and sold complete with mouthpiece. The lacquer is of less interest.
Hoping to find something during july. :sax:

Are you selling your bari this summer?

As I am driving to UK this summer, I am looking for a bari sax to play in my little band. I will be in the area of Dover - York (and a little west or east) mid. July. Price is essential (<£1000), but paid up front if we do agree. The horn must be complete with mouthpiece and case.:sax:

Hello you two - Are you twins? ;}

You say "I will be in the area of Dover - York"

Wow - That will certainly give you plenty of options - It's 274 miles as the crow flies ...

Hope you find a nice Bari ...

John Packer sell them new for around £1200. and you can buy a new Venus for £1050. Both of these seem to be well enough regarded for the price. Enjoy your trip to the UK.

Jim.

He, he. Sorry! Just too eager to find a horn, and I hope those 274 miles (and back) will give the result I hope for.

Thank you, Jim. I once had a Jupiter soprano, and it was OK. I sold it when buying my Keilwerth EX90 Alto. Have you ever tried the Venus bari??

I also am waiting for replies to this, 'cos I might be spending some cash on one of these

If you decide on the Venus, keep an eye on Ebay, someone auctions them and they seem to go quite a bit cheaper.

Might be worth checking up the views on SOTW, sometimes ads stretch the truth a little.

I have ex-demo John Packer bari which I acquired earlier this year for a very reasonable price. I haven't anything to compare it to as its the only bari I've ever played, but its easy to blow, sounds great (I've just got a Runyon smoothbore m/piece) and plays well throughout the range. Worth contacting Packers to find out what they have available as the website isn't always up to date......

Good luck in your search,

Cheers,

Amanda

I have a Packer ex-demo Cadence bari (allegedly better than their basic model but I have no idea how you would tell), my teacher has exactly the same, and it plays great.

Hi Kev, I did that the other day. All I could see was just a general o.k. for the Venus marque.

Packer (JP) saxophones are generally good quality and are a great price. Ive tried the basic model and the cadence and I preferred the cadence model but both models are more than adequate as a first baritone.

Ive repaired Gear4music saxophones and I wasnt that impressed with the build quality to be totally honest.

Good luck in your search - let us know how you get on.

Thank you, Jim. Seems I can get an used JP044 for 900, and a new Venus for 1000. Which is the better, do you think??

Thanks to both Jim and Griff.
Is Venus the same as Gear4music??
