I was honored to be asked by @nigeld to host the September BOTM. I chose "Moonglow", a popular song, also known as "Moonglow and Love", a 1933 popular song. The music was by Will Hudson and Irving Mills and the words were by Eddie DeLange.

A big thank you to @nigeld for locating the sheet music and providing the sheet music and the backing tracks which you can get here:

in the key of G (like the Real Book) at a speed of 112bpm (the tempo in the Benny Goodman recording), twice through.

In addition to the notes and backing track, the Band in a Box and MuseScore files are there for anyone who would like to change the tempo or key. The backing track is in the key of G (like the Real Book) at a speed of 112bpm (the tempo in the Benny Goodman recording), twice through.

I'm looking forward to hearing your takes.

I tried it in G and it doesn't quite sound right to my ear.
The Benny Goodman hit is in Eb, lots of girls from Doris Day to Carley Simon singing it in Bb, Billie Holiday's version is in C. Here's a nice version in F

One of the first playalong book + CD sets that I bought was in the Guest Spot series and is called "Classic Blues - Playalong for Saxophone". I'm not sure what Moonglow is doing in a set of Classic Blues but here is a recording I just made on soprano.

The soprano saxophone has a special charm, you expressed it with great grace (I can't).

The soprano saxophone has a special charm .........

Especially for snakes.

Rhys

PS My soprano is a Rampone & Cazzani semi-curved (saxello style) in gold plate and I love it. I am jealous of your collection of R&C instruments.

and I'm jealous of your soprano: when I bought the Super the dealer had a used one for €2,500 but, strangely for me, on that occasion I was stingy (and I still regret it).

A few months ago I asked Mr. Zolla (R&C owner) to take me into consideration if he were to withdraw a baritone an R1Jazz descending to Bb.

I hope it happens, my wife doesn't. :)

Ciao.

I remember this being called in a practice band I played with about 20 years ago. I thought I didn't know it until we played it -- just didn't know the name. Lo and behold, it turned up on an old Music Minus One vinyl I picked up a few years back with the Mal Waldron trio. Naturally, because it's vinyl, there's a skip. Tried to work around that for this take.

Beautiful, fast and full of energy, beautiful phrases in improvisation.
