The authorities have been reckless enough to nominate me to preside over this month's farcical proceedings.

The gorgeous ballad we will be trampling to death this month is Soultrane, written by pianist Tadd Dameron for John Coltrane, and appearing on the album they made together, Mating Call.

Nice job playing over the changes Bernie. You seem to have a good grasp and feel of the harmony. This is a new tune to me so I'm going to have fun getting familiar with the melody and lovely harmonies.

This is a most lovely tune. I only know it from a really beautiful vocal rendtition by Karrin Allyson, from her best of album titled Next Time Around. Unfortunately I can't find a web video but it is available to listen on spotify.
Nice choice Bernie going to to take me a while to get my chops around this one before posting.

What do you tell you heart when your whole world falls apart?
How do you smile and move on, where do you start?
How do you find your way when your dreams go astray?
Where is tomorrow when you’ve lost yesterday?
I never wanted this, who could know
That everything from that first kiss would have to go?
Our souls forever bound are now lost never found
Maybe I’ll find the answer next time around?

Excellent choice, Bernie! It's a beautiful tune and new to me. I'm looking forward to learning it.
You did a great job on your version - a great start to the month!

Thanks Alice! I hope you'll have a go at it yourself....

I think it is too difficult for me at this stage... I have only just managed to become confident with "When Sunny gets Blue" but I will print the music sheets and make a start. I know this lovely song very well.

Great! I don't believe it's any more difficult than When Sunny Gets Blue (is it?).

Well, i'll know when I look at the sheet music. I have listened to the patterns of notes and it sounds as though it is - for me of course. Anyway, i'll know when I see it.

@Bernie great choice of ballad, plus a great first version:thumb:

Chris..

@Chris I'm confused re Backing tracks and sheet music the music titled F has an F sharp (Gmaj)?

The other is presumably FMaj. You know it doesn't take much to confuse me

Jx

The song with (F) is in concert Fmaj, with sheets for Bb and Eb saxes Jeanette.:)
The other one is in concert Eb,:)

You see easily confused, thanks Chris

Gorgeous tune, and well done you, Bernie! I feel like Alice, it's a bit beyond me still, but something to look forward to! :thumb: OH, edit, looking at the sheet music, that does look do-able! Wow.. I'll have to listen to it loads to get it into my psyche..

Yes, it does. I prefered to play the Bb Tenor version of the last ballad and so I always print both versions even though I play an Alto.

Great idea! I play my flute stuff on the alto and the alto stuff on the flute.. anything goes :)

Ah...then you could try playing it without looking at the music. Not necessarily to post the results, just as an experiment. It works ok for me in the original key on alto by the way.

I do like to have the notes to read and start me off though @Bernie otherwise I flounder trying to find the correct sound. I will print it all off tomorrow at work.
