I've been asked to pick a song for this month. After much deliberation I've decided to go with a song from 1930.

Walkin' my Baby back home.

I'm familiar with Nat king Cole's version

and have been advised that Johnny Ray had a big hit with it. I'm not keen.

Tempo and timing are surprisingly important to make it walk/swing.

An early version from a band leader I've only recently discovered. Ted Weems1930

I've got a backing track for you in Eb but no dots. @Chris Help

The chord sheet is in the real book

Have fun

Edit. Thanks @Chris

Excellent choice Colin. Thanks for agreeing to host! To be honest, I was expecting something from the Jungle book.

"We started to pet, that's when i get... her talcum all over my vest"

What a great line :)

Good choice Colin :thumb:

I think that's the censored version. Live it's "Her face powder all over my vest". Much more racey lol

After saying in another thread how simple recording can be with audacity and a laptop. this was a right faff. Programme not responding, latency, mic problems , forgot the settings for the other mic........any how, I got there.
All I can say is wow! I thoroughly enjoyed that version Colin. I've never heard you play better. It sounds as if you have a real affinity for that tune and know the changes inside and out. You really "own" that song. :clapping:

You're very kind. All I can hear is fluffs, honks and loose intonation lol. It's a shorter version of the arrangement I use for busking. I always feel it's a bit cheeky singing King Cole numbers. I'm never going to do better.

Go on. You know you want to do it.

Yes, but you first.

As it continues raining, I had fun in making a BiaB-Backing Track which includes the melody (and some weird solo). Right-click "Save as", if you want to download it.
BiaB-File is from here

My girlfriend just told me the song was used in a "Columbo" episode named "Forgotten Lady" with Janet Leigh, who earlier played in the film "Walking my baby back home" (1953)

Very enjoyable. Nice recording. Sounds like the band were in the room with you.

Band lacks a bit in power :)
I think it is good to put some kind of "Mastering reverb" on the mixed file to make the band more "in the room".
In my case, Universal Audio emulation of EMT140 reverb.
