So on Wednesday 27th May 2009 do I go and watch Maceo Parker and his band in the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, or do I stay home and watch Liverpool bet Manc U 2-1 in the European cup final on the tele?

Both will be extremely sweet and pleasing !!!

I don't get this whole football thing - who cares who wins?

See yourself in 5 years' time, either talking about just another set of football statistics in the making, or seeing Maceo..

Which is sadder?

Football's a fantastic game. It has speed, skill, a sense of entertainment that transcends commercialism, at it's best it's chess with blood and sweat and it fulfils the caveman instinct to be part of a tribe.

It's just that music's better.

A bunch of overpaid, inarticulate prima donnas that fall over if anybody comes near them. Lawrence Dellaglio got it right; it's the Andrex Premiership - soft and unnecessarily expensive.

Give me the odd shaped ball anytime and go and see the gig.

As someone who'll watch most sorts of sport, it's still a better bet that you'll come out smiling after the gig than the match. It's no cert Liverpool will win - although I hope they do.

What went wrong with English football? I was brought up with English football and players like Nobby Stiles, Francis Lee, Billy Bremner ... and later Terry Butcher, Paul Gascoigne, Paul Ince ..... are all fine ambassadors of English football. It was blood, mud, rain, the ball in the air ... real battles. Go and watch Maceo Parker!!

Watch the football. Watch my team thrash Liverpool. :) Then hear from your mates what a great concert you missed, never to be repeated..... :w00t:

Then you'll see reason, but it'll be too late for this concert. >:)

Look at it another way - when Liverpool lose, there's no need to watch the recording and relive the disappointment. But the concert's going to be a winner for you, whatever happens on the football field. :welldone

It's true that footballers in the English and Scottish premierships, and all other major league's top flights, are overpaid prima donnas. The thing is, though, football is simply a better game than rugby. And it's a million times better than cricket. Awful game, cricket.

I think most of us would agree with the first sentence(except the pro footballers and the WAGS!)........ after that it is all very much a matter of personal taste......a bit like music :)

Buying tickets in advance for Maceo is tantamount to not believing in my team; willing them to lose even. Thats sacrilege. When we get to the final, the match could be as thrilling as the last time we won, when we came back from 3 nil down and won on penalties; real Roy of the Rovers stuff.

And yet Maceo....

Mind you, it would be good fun to be in Manchester the very night they get whooped in Europe ! Perhaps I'd best not go in team colours though.
