Just checked out Andy's latest Album "The Rhythm", deary me, not pushing any boundaries with this one is he? Or did I accidentally take a double dose of blood pressure tablets this morning. I've got a lot of his albums but I won't be getting this one, very disappointing indeed. Seems like he's turned into a smooth cruiser, what a pity.
Any comments?

I listened to his YouTube promo ( or 3mins of it) not my kind of music, a bit Muzak elevator type for me. But I liked his Tenor sound, on YouTube he also talks about his setup. And I wasn't surprised to learn he plays a JJDV. I play the similar JJDV. Chi. So always great to hear you like the sound of another player with a similar mouthpiece.

Sorry I'm 5 years late on my reply but.... Yes, it's a valid critique. But Snitzer really has his own voice and is very distinctive with his sound manipulation. Great articulation too and a fantastic altissimo control. Unlike the good-but-nonetheless-still smooooth players like Dave Koz and Warren Hill etc he is a fair cut above, like Kirk Whalum (come across him playing Giant Steps? Can certainly cut the changes).

Yes, the last few albums are a bit Reason DAW, but his soloing is still pretty massive. Let's face it, Eric Marienthal's albums are really, really smooth - some of the ballads are way too bland for me, but again, the guy can cut loose when he wants to.

Have you seen any of the footage of Snitzer on tour with Billy Joel from about 2013/14 doing NY State of Mind? A monster solo.

I'm guessing you were a fan of the earlier stuff though?
