Thanks guys! I’m glad someone told me I might struggle but good to get proper opinions!
You might not. You will struggle. That's the only certainty. But you will have a lot of fun as well! Thanks guys! I’m glad someone told me I might struggle but good to get proper opinions!
As you can tell, it is a mean-spirited bunch here just waiting to pray and punch on new members. Thankfully, there are also a few very unique and truly helpful individuals on this forum such as myself. Therefore, let me explain: There are pianos made with smaller keys (piaggero), kids size violins, cellos, acoustic guitars, etc, but these are obviously fine instruments made for refined people and their offspring. In contrast and despite Adolphe's lofty intentions, the saxophone rapidly degraded into a proletarian object, where one size fits all, and it is for you to accommodate. Hence, the goal in saxophone manufacture is generally to space the keys to fit average adult hands irrespective of the size of the instrument and with complete disregard for the physique of person playing it. Not sure how well this works on sopranino and contrabass saxophones, as I thankfully never have been tempted by either of these silly-sized instruments. However, this is likely not where you want to start anyway, if you have not played saxophone before. You don't really want to start on alto either, as it is hard to play. Tenor is what everyone plays, each desperately trying to sound different from the next by constantly changing part of their gear, especially mouthpieces, which will set you back a fortune over time. I suggest you start on baritone, which is the best of all the saxophones by quite some margin. Thanks guys! I’m glad someone told me I might struggle but good to get proper opinions!
After reading that I imagined him dangling from the ceiling by a strap so he could reach the mouthpiece - then realised what you meantHarry Gold the bass saxophonist was about 5-4 and played the bass hanging from a strap.
I am now the proud owner of his Buescher bass that he said he bought from Adrian Rollini. Maybe he did but he wouldn’t put it in writing for me.Harry Gold the bass saxophonist was about 5-4 and played the bass hanging from a strap.
