So, I have a solo and ensemble performance in February and a friend and I are looking to play a piece together with our altos. Though I'm having some trouble finding good pieces around the intermediate level. In terms of style, we were thinking about a ballad. But suggestions of any style are appreciated! Jazz or classical recommendations are also fine! Thanks

@nigeld posted a list of all the ballads of the month,. worth looking there

J.W. Pepper is an excellent resource for solo and ensemble literature. Search for Alto saxophone - Duets - then select the ability level you want. If it is an adjudicated solo and ensemble festival you may want to try something like Selected Duets by H.Voxman. If it is more informal than that I can also recommend Six Jazz Duets #1 or #2 by Lenny Niehaus. There are many to choose from on in all different styles on this site.

The ferling etudes book- depending in which publication you get- has oboe duets. The oboe has the same range as the sax, so as long as you don't read the title, nobody would know (or care for that matter, it's pretty common practice to use oboe music on sax).
I don't know which publications have both parts, just that the one I have (western music) doesn't have both parts. If you do get it, you also get an excellent etudes book.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
