I am interested in buying an Allora Paris Pro. Any recommendations and experience will help me a lot. It is same price as Yamaha YTS-280 but this is a Pro and Yamaha is a Student. Thank you

Isn't Allora a generic Chinese brand?

My recommendation is trying both and see if you fall in love.
If you have to bet without trying, go for the Yamaha: a solid tradition, and the definition of "student" instrument is debatable.

My endorsed horns should be little more expensive than the 280, but again, try before you buy.

Allora v Yamaha.......................Yamaha all the way for me. Are you in the USA as I have not seen Allora over here in the UK. My little bit of Googling on Allora implies they are Chinese made (which may be fine) but they do not have the reputation or history of Yamaha, therefore as a first sax..............go Yam.

One mans pro is another mans nightmare and another mans student is a quality keeper. I have no idea what these terms mean. I get paid to play my student horn. Which one of us is the pro?

Consider also that a Yamaha will sell on very easily with a modest depreciation. If you buy a Yamaha second hand you might make a profit.

Any Chinese saxophone, no matter the name or the alleged quality will depreciate massively, if it sells at all.

If I were to be paying Yamaha prices, I'd want a Yamaha. I've never owned a Yamaha saxophone. Guitars, electronics, keyboards but not a saxophone.

How many pro's play this Allora?

Andrej - you can ignore the "pro" label. That is just what the seller has chosen to call it. It doesn't automatically mean that it is "better" than a saxophone that someone else calls "student". And in any case, what is "better" for me is not necessarily better for you.

If you can visit a shop that sells Saxophones then I suggest that you try out one or two. Talk to their saxophone specialist. (Check beforehand that they will be there on the day you visit.) Have a blow and see which ones feel good. Don't feel embarrassed - they are used to helping beginners. Get them to play so you can hear the difference.

Allora makes a wide range of instruments in various price ranges. Presumably the cheap ones are Chinese. It sounds as if the higher price-range saxophones were made in Germany in the past.

There is an old thread about Allora at:
Saxophones - Anyone using an Allora brand Saxophone? Trying to buy a Allora Intermediate soprano.

Allora used to be a brand of B&S. But they went bust and stopped making saxes a few years ago. As the others say, go with Yamaha. Like so many other items with pro on the name, it's just marketing nonsense to upsell bottom end goods. The Yamaha 280 are excellent.
