ST8, new, five year warranty, but didn't need it.

I would go along to both places and see what they have to offer and find out what suits you best. Hansons also usually have some used saxes in stock.
I may be listing a used YTS 62 in the yardsale in the next few days, if that might be of any interest - well within your budget! Of course I will follow the yardsale protocol (just waiting on update from local interest)........

Similarly my Hanson ST5 will be going on soon. Just waiting for the case zipper to be fixed, tomorrow hopefully. Half the new price. As Amanda says, usual Yardsale rules etc...

Supply more info please! What have you played before, what are you expecting, what are you looking at?

Woodwind exch charge abaolute max for used horns so I`d take the above advice and watch the Yardsale .. there`s a lot can be had for £1500 when it comes to top end Tenors if you look elsewhere , I`ve seen recently Keilwerth SX90R, TJ RAW XS,Various Yam 62s, Selmer SA80 Yani 901s etc on Preloved and Dealers on Fleabay and even here on the Yardsale

Try as many as you can and see what feels right for you 🙂

Both the places you mentioned are easy to del with and not pushy so visit both if you can

Jx

Why not go to both,i would go to WE first see what they have to offer,i don't think Stuart charges any more than other woodwind dealers, plus you will get a great array of horns to try, then try Hansons and then make a choice.
If you decide to go down the Ebay or Preloved route then you might get a bargain but it can come with more risk.
Good luck.

Another issue with used stuff bought privately is that you need to factor in the costs of a checkout/setup.

I've bought all mine privately. Some needed nothing, others varied from quick tweak to full repad. This can quickly overtake the savings in buying privately, unless you're able to do an accurate assessment before buying.

Some good advice there in what to look for in the way of faults but a lot is misleading such as on the checking condition area he goes on about stuffy middle D, shrill high D and other note issues which a lot of the time is a characteristic of the design of the horn and not a fault - same with the bit on what the resonators are made of .

he needed to structure that video better so he kept the "Choosing a type of horn" parts which should include such things as stuffy notes and other weirdness such as intonation on various models from the Checking a used horn for serviceability ..

Prof i am looking for a sax to last me i am 53 now, I play in a local sax collective, sometimes in public.I currently play a Jericho j6 which gives a great sound but unfortunately bits keep falling off it and it needs some cunning bodge,s to keep it going. I am very happy to do business with woodwind ex they are very helpful and also Hansons, i just don't know weather to buy a new hanson if i like it when i try it or to get a second hand one that i like from woodwind ex, I know i will get on with some of the saxes they will let me try as i have already played some.

Hanson have quite a few used non-Hanson horns too - Jeanette bought a Yamaha 25 from them .. £1500 will go a hell of a lot further buying private though that doesn`t necessarily mean E-Bay - also there are shops which don`t take the mick price wise - Cashconverters online store have a barely used Keilwerth SX90R for about that kind of money, I`ve seen sensible prices at Dawkes, Woodwind Direct and John Packer quiteoften

Thx Ads I think I would prefer the security of buying from a shop and am also thinking if i get second hand will it need a re pad etc in just a few years, where as a new hanson will i get 10+ years before i need to spend?

All depends on what you're buying and what sort of condition it's in. If you're not confident in judging the state of pads, springs, wear on rods and set up, either budget for an overhaul on purchase, of pay the (significant amount) extra and buy from a reputable shop.

If I was in your position and you kind of know what you want go and do the WWE and Hansons then make a decision. You want the security and comfort of buying from a shop but at "privately sold" prices! Just like all of us!
