Saxophones Accessories with New Saxophone

For the record and to have a good moan - the Chinese and Taiwanese have always beat Yamaha for supplied accessories - with Yam you DO get a half decent mouthpiece and a nice metal cap but otherwise all you get is a tatty yellow duster and the lamest strap imaginable , it`s a thin bit of webbing and a cheap hook and you get the same one with the Tenor as supplied with the sopranos ! , that`s it . Yani don`t seem to give any more either (in fact I don`t think you even get the duster) though their mouthpiece is an even better HR . Must be a Japanese thing - the silly part is that although you get decent Mps ith Yam and Yani, you get a narrow gap, you should be able to choose at the dealer ..

I forgot about the manual (I even got the one with the Pruple 62) - Pretty lame stuff for a sax costing what it does though - especially the quality of the sling

Yani and Yamaha even with the 280 series should provide - Manual , Mouthpiece kit inc Cork grease & pack of three reeds , decent cloth (proper silver cloth with S/Plated horns), full cleaning kit inc pull throughs and padsaver, a pack of their Drying papers , cork grease, sling at least as good as a Ricoh one, preferably up to Neotech standards .. this stuff costs nothing at trade prices and the horns cost a lot of money , even the so called "student" ones .

BTW . ALL Yamaha Japanese made Horns are full on professional standard, they just differ in refinement and bling level -
I believe the Indonesian ones are pretty damn close though the only one I played was a Tenor 275 and it had all the go of a damp squid , couldn`t fault the build, it`d probably sing and give some attitude with a 32 or 62 Mk1 neck on - the Alto I tried was Japanese and that benefitted big time from a quick neck swap with the 21 RAT .

They`ve been trying to sell that for ages - it`s the black putting people off (the real Selmer S80-II version looks just as bad) .. that`s a bargain for what is 90% of an S80-II Tenor , they`d probably let it go for under £300 .

New sax from Jupiter? Model 1100..............you like Jupiter Ads don't you? Heard of these?

East Coast Winds ......

Now when Jupiter ring me and say they have a new sax out and would like my comments im thinking ok send it to me. They then say it sells at £2000 i say hang on a minute Jupiter = Student saxes right?. Well not quite. This is the new 1100 series. Now i have hanging on the wall the 500 and 700 series. Both of which i really like. Sort of a no brainer alto, ie plays in tune, well built, good case etc etc . BUT I had only heard of a 1100 and never seen one. Well today it turned up. and whooooh. hold on a minute. It feels amazing. Thats the first thing i noticed. The pearl touches are really smooth. Then i played it and i was convinced. This really is a nice sax. Im going to say its right up there with the Yamaha 62. but this would have the edge under your fingers. Jupiter obviously have their work cut out for themselves to compete with Yamaha in the intermediate sax market so probably would need to build a better sax just to compete. This has my vote. well done Jupiter. Come in and try it for yourself.

I`ve mixed feelings about Jupiter, love the sound , don`t like the warbles or easily dented thin bodies , I`ve not heard of an 1100 series, 900 was as far as they used to go

It's like those really nasty car colours..... some 'design' team must have sat around saying ..''yeah that's really cool, ok let's make loads like that''...

..must have been smoking something is all I can assume..

Thankfully the days of Diahorrea brown Allegros and baby puke mustary coloured Marinas are long gone !!

Thanks Ads for reminding me i had one of those Allegros and a Marina although that was in Blaze red and rust.
I had these memories locked away in the deep crevasses of my brain not to be recalled, but its too late now.🙁🙁🙁

The best I've come across is R & C

No mouthpiece but then I see no point unless it's a beginner saxophone.

  • Neck bag
  • Cork grease
  • Swabs x 2 (Little & large)
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Nice neckstrap
  • A case to die for!

Given the price of this stuff , ALL saxes bar maybe the cheapest should come with all the stuff R&C are giving ......

the biggest shame is the downturn of the quality of Yamaha cases, the 62s come in zip cases with silly flaps on and the 475-II Sop comes in a Chinese zipper backpack case now instead of the lovely executive case - OK they totally re-designed this new version of the low end Sop from the ground up to effectively replace the 62/675 sector AND most of it is now 875EX mechanics now but a Jericho-level case on a £1500 horn is sad all the same ......

Keilwerth ought to be Keil-Hauled for the junkola case the SX90R series come in, far worse than the Yamahas , I`d say low end BW is close... cases and throwins don`t cost the earth and lack of or rubbish is just spoiling the ship for a Ha'peth of Tar .

R&C at least seem to be giving a set of accessories and a case in line with the cost and level of the horn .

It`ll be interesting to see what Stephanhouser gave as a standard case (Profs came in a 3rd party case added by Davey ,a Hiscox if I remember) as that was an intermediate priced horn at the time . My guess is one of the two Trad Taiwan cases - the excellent hard case like the Elkhart 300s came in or the decently made backpack like the Deluxe models .
