Misc recording 9 Month (Adult Beginner Progress Video) - Tenor Sax

You must be sounding better, because they let you out of the garage!

In all seriousness I think you're sounding good, and while I understand your motivation to maintain progress and the value of self-critique I would say be mindful of not overdoing negative thinking. Also, and you may be doing this already or wanted to keep the video length shorter, I think you should solo for a chorus or two especially on tunes like Blue Monk.

Looking forward to the next one 🙂

Your opening line really had me laughing! Thank you for the reminder to not get to down about where I think I should be, or how I should sound.

When you say solo for a chorus or two, do you mean improv?

Sounding good 👍

I like to play the pink panther... I sometimes creep around the house tormenting the wife with it... I like to start very quietly, and concentrate on articulation... Then growl on the long notes. Yep I'm a big kid at heart.

There's a video by Scott Paddock on ad-libing Autumn Leaves, check it out. I'm currently working on improvising over the chords.

Sounded like some of the low notes were a struggle, possibly a bit tight with your embouchure?

You're doing well. I think I said on your last video about trying some adding dynamics. An analogy my teacher gave me... Imaging the written music is words in a book, and you stand up and just read the words out, in a constant monotone voice, you're reading what's written but lacks 'interest', same with the Ad-lib video, you're taking the words and adding some 'interest' and your own touches to it.

Long tones are good, just play your note and see how quietly you can bring the note down, then try starting quietly and increase to as loud as you can.

I'm far from a pro 🤣

Thank you for mentioning that example your teacher gave you. I will do that with my long tones. It makes sense to me, what you've said about dynamics, thanks!
There's millions of things you should/could practice but not enough hours in the day. Keep plugging away 👍 nice idea videoing your progress, be good to look back over time.
