Hi all, I've been handed the reins for this months ballad and I'd like to offer you this tune. It was originally written by the Waterboys but recently covered by Ellie Goulding. I really love this tune, I feel it is so full of emotion. I get a tear in my eye whenever I play it.
I believe that it's a reasonably uncomplicated piece to play but is a nice piece to show your emotion through so that's the challenge. To pack as much emotion into this tune as you can. I've don't have the dots for this tune but as it has a fairly simple melody, I feel sure that some of the more fluent music readers could provide us with some if necessary.
Here are a couple of links to Ellie singing it and to an official instrumental version which, if you follow my directions on this link http://cafesaxophone.com/community/resources/how-to-find-and-download-backing-tracks.41/ you can use this as your backing track.

Here is Ellies version

Here is the official backing track

Good luck, but most of all I hope you all enjoy my choice of tune and have a lot of fun with it. I'm already looking forward to hearing some great versions. I'm also hoping that some of our newer players may have a go too.

Neat Choice Taz. This is one of these Numbers I wander about the place whistling or trying to sing, so this Months BOTM gives me a chance to learn it properly. TA.

I'm hoping to hear your version Jeanette ;)

Believe me you will wish you hadn't and there is no false modesty there. :)

It would be nice to think maybe one day but don't hold your breath;)

In addition to Taz`s method of getting the BT you can also cut and paste any youtube Video URL into the top field on this site. It works well.

@ Chris. I suppose the other way of getting at the dots would be to import the mp3 into BIAB and then labouiously Transcribe them in by hand .A touch like hard work I`m afraid. LOL just found this link.

but it`s only part I`m afraid

Chris, sorry, no I haven't. As I don't use them, I wouldn't have the first clue where to look.

Lovely tune Taz... all we need now is some MP3 to MXL conversion software. Move it into Musescore, transpose where necessary, save as PDF, Print and play.... Seemples :)

It would now appear, that, thank's to a lot of hard work from Chris, we now have the dots in Eb and Bb for all those that would like them, just pm me with your email address and I'll mail them to you. I also have an emailable backing track for those that would like it as well.
It's all good at the Cafe Saxophone this morning!

Hi Guy's I've had a few requests for the dots and the backing track so the easiest way (so I've been told, being a technophobe I wouldn't have the first idea ) is to put them into Dropbox and leave the links here! so that's what I've done and here they are!

OK thought I'd give it a go but when I downloaded the original + Chris's backing tracks audacity says it doesn't recognize this type of file so wont load suggests a roar file? tried this got loads of hissing and nothing else....tried listening to MLoosmore's version on soundcloud, but wait a minute now that I've eventually been able to log back in to sound cloud it wont let me play any of my songs and hey I cant play MLoosemores song either....oh how I hate computers.

I did download Chris's backing track into Audacity and it worked for me but I decided to go for the original Ellie Goulding backing track for my effort. Suggest your problem is with Soundcloud for some reason...

I just tried some of your tracks Fraser and they seem OK from this end.

Ah, I was going to ask if someone could try and play some of mine as a test so OK looks like I disabled something the other day when trying to get rid of those pop-ups. so how did you get the backing into audacity? I went file-import-downloads- picked the track then it said it didn't support that file type? am I doing something wrong there as well?? am I able to change it into a different kind of file I wonder??

The download is an mp3 so I just opened Audacity and then did File/Open to get the file.. File/import/audio works too
