deadlink 2012/10 - Goodbye Mr Evans

Just want to thank Chris for MP3 and Leadsheet, plus posting a nice version of the Ballad. It is a big helping for a less experience player, making contributing a Ballad to this thread looking achievable.

Cheers

3 sharps/1 flat

Or were you saying they won't work with the same backing track? Chris has two...

Not made any easier on the alto chart by writing the f# & c# (which is in the key we are playing in ) as Gb & Db
Mr Evans(alto) copy.jpg in the bar with the eighth note run there is Db ( should have been left as C#) which then had to be cancelled to get the D and what is the cancelled F# followed by E# is all about ...

:headscratch:

how to improvise?

Hey guys and gals, I'm wondering I could get some help interpreting the score. This is the score off Phil Wood's website, so it's all in C. I'm working in the key of C for now, so the chord sequence for the first five bars is

G7sus, G7sus, [B/C, C/B], [Am7, D9], G7 sus

Is it correct if I
a) improvise with G mixylodian over the G7 sus parts,
b) group Am7, D9 and G7sus as a ii, V, I progression so I can use G mixylodian over them
c) not sure how to interpret [B/C, C/B], could I say B/C is B with an added flat 9, and C/B as Cmaj7? Stumped as to what I could use for B/C. Was thinking using some common tones of the C major scale and B major scale, but I need to try.

Thanks!

Re: how to improvise?

Well Kev you have chosen such a lovely melody with dots that seem quite easy.... It is not that simple ... it is a little tricky.... Phil I think is clever here using Bill Evans "change thoughts" to Pen this tune To respect Bills Memory IMO... Anyway here is my rendition...

Well done Ade, nice sound. I noticed you have uped the tempo a bit, from Phil woods original. I do the same tempo as PW but I think the test of a good melody is that it can be played with varied tempos. Good Work
