OK in Aussie it is September eve... time to release the new Ballad.... Now I know this tune will.. maybe somewhat challenging...not because it is difficult to play note for note...but the way it is expressed, thus we can all make it our own, with our individual style.
If anyone needs some resources to assist with this... between myself and Chris, I think we can make this accessible for all. (I Hope) ;}
This Month's Ballad is... Detour Ahead ...(I Hope that was Not a collective groan)
Some samples ... One of my favourites is Vince Jones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE7E7oXzKzc or Maybe Stan Getz from the 50's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpzkkCRGZMI
Or crazydaisydo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6fxxvqEf14
Enjoy...
Looking forward to the various renditions..

Ade >:) :)

Re: 2012/07 - Over the Rainbow

I haven't participated in the the tune of the month thing but I have something
I did quite a few years ago. I'll always remember this recording because I was in the process
of having two new front teeth veneers put in. I recorded this tune with the temps which were
quite a protrusion and awkward. My Jerry Lewis (Nutty Professor) rendition...
Anyway, I sound flat and lackluster but who cares. Flat and sharp are merely states of mind.

Ah, the irony of playing tonally.............

Chris..
Thanks Chris... Thats what I need more pressure :w00t:

Not to happy with the solo. Some things worked but some didn't:w00t:, but there is plenty of time for another version;}..

Chris..
Great to hear you up and about so early with a version.. I know what you mean when it comes to soloing, but by having a go at improvising we keep learning :thumb:

Which leaves the question what is ade going to post now?.....John
I have just dusted of the Tenor.... ;}

Re: Detour Ahead

Another really good choice. and 4 Ace takes already.

Nice to hear early Mike .I hope you stick at your sax. It`s so much more expressive than guitar, and sometimes the real breakthrough in concept is just round the corner.

As usual Chris you`re fast off the mark. You got a take up before most of us have found the sheet on "WikiF". Nice playing which is still heading in the right direction and I hope you are preparing your Sop Debut as we speak.

Ade. I loved the NY /East coast backing being a sucker for anything Fender Rhodes and thought you did a good job of laying down some coolness.

I hope I can do one this month. I`ve had a few ill days and also other techy probs with horns and Internet. My DIY skills have been tested by my 2 tenors and my Sop but I hope they are OK now and I already have a backing so I`ll hopefully get a take done soon. I`ve been trying out on Vocals and Sop on a Chet Baker cover and wow if I thought playing a horn was hard. "Well I`ll tell Ya"?

Re: Detour Ahead

Hi Adrian, I thought that was very cruisey and laid back. Your playing has come on since the last time I heard you.
The effects you used on this really add to the feel. Great backing track where did you get that one!
My only slight criticism is more ryththm and tone variety, I was waiting for you to cut loose a little.

Very well done

Hmmm this "Ballad a Month" is working well for you, maybe I should get into posting, I have lots of excuses none of which are valid.

Good to hear from you Jimu.. I totally agree with you.. about cutting loose .. I have the urge and some of the feeling of where I should go in a melody.... but as yet no guts to give it a serious go with the Mike on!
