Actually, many of us probably know players who qualify as great? I'm pretty sure I've known at least two, one in L.A. and one in Copenhagen.

There was no one on that list I hadn't heard of. That's "fame", though, not influence. The only place I heard the other names mentioned is here. Influence, is that a million guys trying to sound like _____?

Correct - Europe is much more likely to get on the list of influential players with the tenor sax. Tim Garland. Jan Gabarek. Bendik Hofseth.

I expect I'm probably alone in that the only alto players who influenced me were Elton Dean, Mike Osborne and Graham Bond. Although if Anthony Braxton counts as an alto player then I'd include him.

Nice. Very similar to Art Pepper. Don’t know who came first!
Recording is 1956 IIRC. I haven't heard Pepper play tunes I've heard much. I'm familiar with a lot of versions of Old Devil Moon (great tune IMO) and Moonlight in Vermont.
