You really have to put the time into the horn. It's really not like riding a bike. You can't expect to play as good, after a long period away. You have great enthusiasm and I wish you well in playing this beautiful instrument.
 
No, it's not like riding a bike, but when I came back to the sax after decades away from it, I astonished myself at remembering to put the new reed in my mouth, how to adjust the reed to the mouthpiece, ligature placement, fingering, etc...Then came the need to learn how to read music for the horn. Heavy on the learning. Old people have to try harder, but therein lies a great deal of the pleasure of this instrument.
